The Future of Technology in Education...

I’ve just started reading the HORIZON REPORT: K- 12 Edition. This report addresses six technologies that the New Media Consortium suggests are going to be rapidly emerging in our K – 12 environments over the next few years.

The web edition is available here: http://wp.nmc.org/horizon-k12-2009/

If you are curious about the potential impact of mobile devices, cloud computing, smart objects and the personal web, you might want to check out this report! Widespread NINGS in 5 years? I'm not sure....but it is interesting reading so far......

Cheers

Some interesting stuff Mac...hmmm...are we embracing the new technology or are we "afraid" of it in our schools? "Hey you kids no cell phones or i-pods allowed" seems like a pretty dated response to me. I think the real issue/arguement shouldn't be...is this technolgy allowed?...but rather when is it appropriate for student use it in our schools? The "when" can certainly be taught; but to "just say no" seems to be a self-defeating and archaic look at technology; especially in terms of future use of technology and the positive impacts it could have in education.

I couldn't agree more Smitty.....we need to embrace student mobility and tap into the inherent sense of curiousity and motivation it provides kids!
